Your modern crown of green fence does make you larger than you were. I too, would like to wear my confinement as antlerpiece, to have discovered the rutting of the green of forest and the eternity of hydrocarbons, to be thus followed by worshipful watchers as I anoint and lift up the twisted child that must inherit all earth. Eido. Lo. Ecce!

Notes
In today’s episode of summons poets must obey, I found the BBC article this poem takes its title from. I read it on the day of publication and have been haunted by it ever since. I thought I’d base an erasure poem on the article but after about 8 tries, I gave up on that. There’s little to add to that rich tableau / indictment of life as it is today (which may have been why I was trying to subtract from it instead through erasure :D ). Anyway…I’m proud of how today’s photo illustration adapts the original metaphor while being its own thing.
