I’d written a book about birds,
so someone asked if I’d done
any birding. Haha. I wrote those poems
from the stapled matchbox array where
even stars were shrouded, at the narrow
desk behind which my neighbor’s snores
ground through drywall. I pecked my own
window into that night. I carved another
and become bi-ocular. Next, ask me if,
because of the marine poems,
I’ve ever learned to swim.
